Mr. DeMaio is a partner of Nord & DeMaio. He is an experienced trial lawyer with a diverse civil litigation practice. He has extensive experience in the areas of complex commercial litigation, construction, shareholder/partnership disputes, franchise disputes, commercial and residential landlord/tenant disputes, consumer fraud claims, public contract matters, corporate collection actions, Federal and State tax controversies, probate and administration actions and contract disputes, of every nature. He has litigated cases in State and Federal Courts in New Jersey and New York and is also adept at alternative dispute resolution, routinely appearing in mediation and arbitration proceedings before the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Mr. DeMaio also has extensive transactional experience, specifically including, but not limited to, the preparation of complex construction contracts, commercial and residential lease agreements, business formation documents, business purchase/sale documents, franchise agreements, buy-sell agreements, financing and security agreements, consignment agreements, corporate credit applications and contracts.
In connection with his Estate Planning and Elder Law practice, Mr. DeMaio has vast experience counseling clients and preparing complex documents in the areas of asset protection, wills, powers of attorney and combined advance healthcare directives. In this regard, Mr. DeMaio possesses an LL.M. in Taxation from the prestigious New York University School of Law, Masters in Taxation program.
With respect to his Appellate practice, Mr. DeMaio has handled all aspects of matters before the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and has a seminal published Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division decision, in the area of public contract bidding.
Mr. DeMaio is licensed to practice law in the States of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania and is a Member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association, Tax Section and Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. DeMaio received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Fordham University, College of Business Administration, his Law Degree from St. John’s University School of Law and his Masters in Taxation from New York University School of Law.
Mr. Stafford is the firm’s senior litigation associate, specializing in complex commercial matters and construction - related cases. He has extensive experience counseling clients and litigating matters in the areas of contracts and commerce, banking and finance, private and public construction, commercial real property, shareholder agreements and disputes, workplace disputes and copyright and trademark law.
Mr. Stafford represents clients in the prosecution of their claims and the defense of their interests in both state and federal court. He handles such matters from their beginnings through trial, as well as arbitration proceedings and appeals.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Stafford was a litigator at Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker in New York, representing attorneys, accountants, insurance professionals, architects and engineers in the firm’s professional liability division. During such time, he co-authored the firm’s liability handbook for its insurance agent and broker clients and also handled matters in the fidelity and surety division. Following his work with Wilson Elser, Mr. Stafford later was of counsel to Jonathan Schafrann, Esq., representing entertainment industry clients.
Mr. Stafford is admitted to practice in the States of New Jersey and
New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Mr. Stafford received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Villanova University’s School of Commerce and Finance, and his law degree from New York Law School.
Mr. Nord is the founding partner of Nord & DeMaio. The firm was originally founded as Nord & Associates on January 1, 1990. Prior to founding Nord & Associates, Mr. Nord was a partner with the Middlesex County, NJ law firms of Deutsch, Shur & Nord and Venturi, Nord & Brockway. Previous to becoming a partner with Venturi, Nord & Brockway, Mr. Nord was associated with the law firms of Ravin, Davis & Sweet and Greenbaum, Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith, Ravin, Davis & Bergstein.
He has extensive experience litigating and counseling clients in the areas of complex commercial litigation, construction, business disputes, personal injury, insurance disability claims, franchise disputes, and contract disputes of every conceivable nature. He is the attorney to whom other attorneys refer complex commercial litigation matters.
He has tried over 50 jury trials to verdict and bench trials to judgment and has litigated cases in both State and Federal Courts.
In his Appellate practice, Mr. Nord has handled all aspects of successful cases for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is also adept at Alternative Dispute Resolutions and has lectured on the topic and has appeared for the New Jersey State Bar Association as one of two panel members for a public television broadcast on the topic.
Mr. Nord prides himself on his relationships with his clients. These relationships extend back to the inception of his practice. He has learned that the way to be successful in this business is to be responsive to his clients’ needs. In this respect, he has been relentless in pursuing his clients’ rights over the years and has developed a reputation of being a fierce, but fair adversary.
Perhaps Mr. Nord is best known for his expertise concerning the NJ Construction Lien, Municipal Lien, and Bond Acts. He has lectured extensively on these topics. He is known in the industry as the “go-to” lawyer for suppliers of building and electrical materials. He has provided input with regard to the current Construction Lien Laws and has been asked for his input with regard to potential revisions to Legislation concerning the New Jersey Trust Fund Act.

Adam Nord joined the firm in 2014 as a first year associate. Adam is originally from East Brunswick and attended East Brunswick High School. He graduated from Ithaca College in 20-8 with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics. Adam then attended the Western New England University School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts. He graduated in 2013, and during his time there he served as a Legal Intern at the Massachusetts Commission against Discrimination.
Prior to joining the firm, Adam was a law clerk at Gill & Chamas LLC in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Adam is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York.

Mr. Sommers is currently of counsel to the New Jersey firm of Nord & DeMaio where he handles New York cases. The majority of cases involve collection of sales of client merchandise and materials in the construction industry and many result in the filing of mechanic liens to protect the interests of the client.
Mr. Sommers has over 45 years of experience in the collection practice and started out as an associate at the law firm of Siegel, Sommers & Schwartz in Brooklyn, New York. Siegel, Sommers & Schwartz was a law firm that specialized in the collection practice going back to the late 1930s and handled a variety of collection cases both commercial and retail.
In 1970, Mr. Sommers and his partners established a new law firm, Leopold, Gross & Sommers. That firm also specialized in both retail and commercial collections. The firm was honored to have as its clients Brooklyn Union Gas Company and the City of New York for whom it was responsible for collecting a variety of obligations due to NYC. As a partner, Mr. Sommers was responsible for the management of the staff of personnel and also handled its commercial collection practice.
In 2005 to date, Mr. Sommers entered into his current position as "of counsel" to the New Jersey law firm of Nord & DeMaio, with its main office located in East Brunswick, N.J., responsible for collection matters involving debtors in New York State.
Mr. Sommers graduated from New York University in 1962 with a B.A degree and graduated from New York Law School in 1965 with a J.D. degree. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1966 and is admitted in the U.S. District Court: Southern District of New York as well as the U.S. District Court: Eastern District of New York.
Personally, Mr. Sommers is a member of the East Brunswick Jewish Center and was a member of its board of directors from 2008 -20012 and was the chairman of the Special Circumstance Committee and is currently a member of that committee.
